The new interiors mentioned earlier are in the game, now.
Frogatto & Friends is an action-adventure platformer game, starring a certain quixotic frog.
We're an open-source community project, and welcome contributions!
We also have a very flexible editor and engine you can use to make your own creations.
Hi there – I recently downloaded this beautifully designed project, and have had a lot of fun exploring the different areas 🙂 I assume that the crashes are because I’ve tried to access a part of the game/world that hasn’t been implemented yet?
As a newcomer to the game, is there a list of what the final version is likely to have (number of worlds/levels/enemy types/etc.), and an approximate date/year that it will be finished?
Thanks for your time,
James/HS
We’re shooting to have a version out by the end of this coming march, which will have four worlds to it: seaside, forest, cave, and dungeon.
I don’t know if we’re going to make that date, but it seems realistic. Forest and seaside are nearly done, and cave has a core tileset done; we just need to do the heavy-lifting on dungeon and we’re good to go.
Wow – that soon? Well, I’m really looking forward to seeing the final – or do you mean that the four world version will be another demo?
Also, will this be free or a commercial product? I’m guessing the latter option.
The game will be commercial on the iPhone, but freeware on pcs; code will most likely be GPL or some other similar license. We just want enough protection to not have someone else selling what we worked hard on, but we’d love to see the engine get used to make other games.
It’s quite flexible and would basically work for any 2d, sprite-based game, especially I’d it used square tiles.
Really the big releas blockers are getting cave and dungeon graphics done, and getting a bunch of storyline event scripting done so that frogatto can actually make stuff happen in his world, rather than just randomly killing monsters for no reason. He is on an actual mission of sorts, which you can see the first hints of in the very latest revision.
What we’re planning to release then, will be a relatively short game. But it isn’t “another demo”, because what’s up there right now isn’t a demo – it’s a snapshot of current development. I just make Mac and Windows builds now and then, almost at random; they’re not polished at all, they’re just the current state of how things are at the moment.
